Katrin Korfmann - Ariel Art

Korfmann explores notions of space and time from a series of ariel shots to create patterns with the people and objects being photographed.

The tiny pops of colour against the monochrome grounds (and indeed vise verse in Kings College Cambridge) are what draw me  into these beautifully constructed images.

Please follow the link to her website clicking on the title of this post to read more about how she produces her work.

Ai Weiwei: 'Coloured Vases'

After his popular exhibition of thousands of hand painted porcelain sunflower seeds at the Tate Modern Gallery earlier this year, Chinese artist Ai Weiwei is now exhibiting his collection of 'Coloured Vases' at the Lisson Gallery London (www.lissongallery.com) from May 13-July 16 2011. I cant wait to go and see these beautiful colours and shapes for myself!

Bold and Bursting

Bold and Bursting with Colour

2 weeks later and I went to Brighton again this weekend, I really love visiting Brighton as it has a young, relaxed, fun vibe about it and is full of colour! These graffiti scenes were really striking and added so much colour and character to a small side road. The three dimensional visual qualities that they portray and also how they work withthe shapes and angles of the buildings gives the graffiti a perhaps more sophisticated approach in its appeal.

Dan Flavin

Dan Flavin

Yesterday I researched the concept of 'light' further and came across a book called 'Light From Artificial Light' by Weibel, P and Jansen, G. Brilliant book for light and colour inspirations and one of the most inspiring people in the book to me is Dan Lanvin. The colours given off from the bulbs creating strong panels of colour on the walls in different tones and hues really interests me. It is inspiring in terms of ways to record visual research in my sketcbook and really pushes the concept of artifical light and its beauty.

Tomas Saraceno 'Poetic Cosmos'.

An Argentinian artist who I came across in my research. I thought this was amazing the way that he used iridescent foil and blew it up with heat which created all these beautiful colours. An interesting way to use heat and light!

Cell Lighting 'Lighting Kaleidoscope'

Again while researching my I came across Cell Lighting. This 'Lighting Kaleidoscope' uses lighting as an interactive source encouraging activity within children while at the same time creating beautiful imagery that could constantly change.

These were just two people I came across while researching but while I am researching it is making me realise how much light can impact in everyday life. In terms of colour, it can add so much to an evironment and change it completely. Light can be something we take for granted, but the more reseach I am doing and the more photos I am taking it is becoming apparent how much we need light, how much it can influence moods and spaces and even though it is something that features in our everyday lives, it is constantly changing and adapting. It can also be very beautiful purely as it is when manipulated and viewed differently to how we see it day-to-day.
